Quality of Service Performances in Ad Hoc IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs

چکیده
WLAN is a wireless network which provides connectivity in a limited area. IEEE 802.11 is the most widespread standard for wireless LANs, but it is not suitable for real time services. The draft standard IEEE802.11e provides solutions for Quality of Service (QoS), and maintains the compatibility with the IEEE802.11 standard. The paper, after a brief introduction on the WLAN technology, describes the IEEE802.e solutions for QoS and provides simulation results in an ad hoc network with different loads. It is shown that QoS in an ad hoc network can be provided with completely distributed techniques even if the network is heavy loaded with real time services.

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
متن کاملAssessment of DSACC and QPART Algorithms in Ad Hoc Networks
The rapid advancement in wireless over wired has augmented the need for improving theQuality of Service (QoS) over such wireless links. However, the wireless ad hoc networkshave too low bandwidth, and establishing a QoS in these networks is a difficult issue. So,support of quality of service in ad hoc networks is the topical issue among the networkscience researchers. In this research we are go...

Adaptive Quality-of-Service Provisioning in Wireless and Mobile Networks by Chun-Ting Chou Chair: Kang G. Shin The problem of adaptive QoS provisioning in wireless and mobile networks is studied in this thesis. A mathematical model is established to analyze the impact of adaptive bandwidth allocation on both system performance and user-perceived QoS. With this model, network service providers c...
متن کاملA bandwidth allocation/sharing/extension protocol for multimedia over IEEE 802.11 ad hoc wireless LANs
In this paper, we will propose a novel bandwidth allocation/sharing/extension (DBASE) protocol to support both asynchronous traffics and multimedia traffics with the characteristics of variable bit rate (VBR) and constant bit rate (CBR) over IEEE 802.11 ad hoc wireless local area networks. Overall quality of service (QoS) will be guaranteed by DBASE. The designed DBASE protocol will reserve ban...
متن کاملACENET: architectures and protocols for high throughput, low power, and QoS provisioning in next-generation mobile communications
In this paper, we propose the Ad-hoc CEllular NETwork (ACENET), a heterogeneous wireless network architecture for 3.5 generation (3.5G) and fourth-generation (4G) mobile systems. We propose an IP-based integrated wireless routing scheme for the integration of heterogeneous wireless networking technologies in 3.5G and 4G ACENET. We also propose an integrated wireless MAC scheme for 4G ACENET. AC...
